  : location was great!
  : despite refurbishments being done it was clear this was only a luck of paint!! my room 227 was basic! the phone didn’t work so could call reception. the tv didn’t work, the bathroom was dirty! the bath was not clean, the floor sneeded a good hoover and wash! the cold and hot water taps moved when turned on and had to be held in place. not sure what the refurbishments were but fixtures and fittings didn’t come into it! they moved me a few doors down. room was cold, remote for tv didn’t work, bathroom floor was soiled and in desperate need of cleaning. linen smelt like it had been up in a greasy cafe and then put on bed! it really was a poor show! this hotel is in a beautiful building and could be stunning but they need to clean and really look at the way they present each room. these are fundamental things that need doing! didn’t stay the night in the end!

  : Reception staff did their best to compensate for poor inadequate services in the hotel. e. g upgraded to largest suite in the hotel. Breakfast croissants and berries on waffles were excellent
  : no central heating in any part of the hotel for duration of the stay. Manager could not explain why, said no one else complained , maintenance man was absent and couldn’t be contacted yo fix the problem or come in early to fix the issue. When asked following morning at 08.50 what the maintenance staff had reported, she said the staff didn’t come in until 0900. There was no dining room or nearby restaurant to compensate. Manager claimed it was too difficult to recruit staff. While the hotel sent out an email claiming there car park had been taken over and guests would have to pay £15 a night , this just seemed ridiculous and a scam. in nearby Chelmsford the best hotel in town also has a shared use car park. overnight rate is £7 and hotel guests, whether staying or just having a drink are exempt from car park charges. Hôtel is in serious need of investment, refurbishment, upgrading, and staff increase and bonus scheme.
